BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAMME – Circular Economy in Smart Cities

The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on Circular Economy in Smart Cities aims to deepen the knowledge of the circular economy and to explore ways in which we can redesign our systems, products, businesses and services to allow us to achieve future sustainable cities.

The course addresses issues and formative skills on the UNESCO SDGs related to Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12), Climate action (SDG 13), and transversely with Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7) and Gender equality (5).

Students attending this course will have the unique opportunity to experience the work in international groups and to improve their soft skills.

Virtual module (19.06.2023-10.07.2023)

Webinar: 16:00 – 17:30 CET (60 min. presentation and 30 min. discussions).

Final examination of online module 10.07.2023

Final examination of on-line module will be computer-based and will consist of a multiple-choice questionnaire (50 questions) which must be successfully completed. It is considered successful if the correct answers provided by the student are at least 50% of the total number of questions.


Physical module (11.09.2023 – 15.09.2023)

This is a 5 days workshop at University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, Romania aiming to put in practice knowledge from virtual module. The students will work in teams, mentored by professors, to develop a solution to a study case.


Recognition: 3 ECTS

Language of teaching:
Both online and in-presence lectures will be taught in ENGLISH, and a B2 level is required to have a successful learning experience.

Eligibility criteria:
To apply for this program, students must be regularly enrolled at one of the participating universities.

How to apply:
Students interested in participating should fill out the registration form at this link. by 15th June 2023, as well as send the required documents to UPB Coordinators. Also the applicants must submit to BIP coordinator the following documents :

1. Copy of valid ID or passport.
2. Transcript of Records (A certificate of enrolment at the home University with a list of passed exams and grades);

Selection criteria and procedures:
Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance
  • Motivation

Students should expect to hear back about the result of their application by 16h June 2023.
Selected students will be contacted with further instructions upon completion of the selection procedures.

Financial support

The attendance of the Blended Intensive Programme may be covered by an ERASMUS+ SMS Short Mobility Grant for all mobile students (excluding students from the hosting University). This financial support may only be guaranteed by the selected student’s home University.

The University of origin of each selected student is fully responsible for the management of the financial aspects of the mobilities in accordance with the provisions of the competent ERASMUS+ National Agency.

No financial support is foreseen for University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest students as they will not be travelling for the purposes of participation in this program (non-mobile participants).
