Job Opening: Doctoral Candidate in the Research Field of Production Automation at FAU
The Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems is a teaching and research institution for automation technology and mechatronic systems. We are a creative, dynamic and young team researching innovative automation, handling, and assembly systems. One of our research groups, the group ‘signal and power networks’, specifically focuses on wiring systems. Research focal points are automated handling and recognition of deformable objects for mounting tasks in an industrial environment, quality monitoring approaches, and digitalized production systems for high-variant manufacturing systems.
Your task will include the following activities:
- Technical responsibility and leader of research and industrial projects in the field of robot-based handling of wires/deformable linear objects
- Research novel approaches and develop automation solutions encompassing human-robot-collaboration as well as novel actuator and sensor concepts
- Development of systems for optical recognition and identification of gripping points for deformable linear objects and wire system components
- Setup of demonstrators in the laboratory environment for validation
- Collaboration with industrial partners
- Initiate and coordinate research proposals
- Supervision of students
- Contribute to technology transfer internationally by participating in seminars, fairs, conferences
Candidates are required to have the following qualifications:
- Engineering degree (M.Sc./diploma) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, industrial engineering, computer science or equivalent degree
- Knowledge in the field of robotics and computer vision
- Coding experience, especially in automation technology
- Motivated work ethics
- Capable of both working independently as well as part of a team
- Strong organizational, written, oral, and methodological skills
- Identification with the vision and values of the institute

Position:
- Payment according to TVL-E13 ≈ 52.000€ / year
- Full-time positions, 40,1h/week
