Vision & Engineering Community (Vis-E-Com)
The community aims to emphasize the importance of visual aspects of human-centric design and to build an international network to educate future engineers to design products and systems considering the fundamentals and the newest scientific results of visual sciences.
Besides the unarguable growth of automation and robotization, humans are the users of products and systems designed by engineers. The human sensory system defines the limits of information we can reach in the world by selecting, reducing, and pre-processing stimuli, evoking perception - through the organization of sensory input into neural representation. Understanding the mechanisms and fundamentals of our visual system should be an essential element of engineering design, measuring and optimization.
We aim for an interdisciplinary collaborative approach from numerous fields, such as lighting engineering, colorimetry, ophthalmology, visual ergonomics, industrial design, architecture, and arts, among others. Our further goal is to support complex, multidisciplinary, challenge-based projects that use novel visualization techniques (such as XR or VR) or modern image processing methods.
